The next morning, hubby woke up early to enjoy the sunrise. Oh, isn't the sunrise on the Beppu Bay against the mountains scenic, beautiful and gorgeous?


I took a second dip in the indoor onsen and this time, I was not alone. I had company! Today, the water was not too hot, jsut nice! Strange, it was so hot the day before! Again, went upstairs to take a look at the outdoor onsen and it looked exactly the same as the indoor onsen except it is open with half of the windows removed.
< br/> And soon, it was time for breakfast in the same restaurant we had our dinner the night before. It was a buffet breakfast, with a pretty good spread of dishes, offering both western and japanese fare. There were quite a number of guests in this hotel. It was more crowded this morning, compared to yesterday.

After breakfast and resting a while, we checked out and made our way to JR Beppu Station to catch the Limited Sonic 5 to JR Oita Station to transfer to a JR Kyudai train to Yufuin.

It was a short 10mins ride to Oita. We wished we could be in the train longer . The limited express Sonic was pure white with very luxurious and comfortable sests. After we arrived at Oita, we exited and roamed about the area around station.

Unfortunately, there were a lot of contructions on-going and the scenery was not that inviting.
This was the JR Kyudai train we were taking to Yufuin. It was a 2 car local diesel train.

Before boarding the Yufu no Mori (ゆふいんの森, we took another shot of the Yufin Shopping Street , Yufumi Doori (由布見通り with Mt Yufu as the background. Its peak was covered by clouds today.

We went to take a dip in the indoor onsen before dinner. Nobody else was there and I had the whole onsen to myself. Lovely! the small onsen had a good view of the Beppu Bay. However, the temperature of the water was quite hot, compared to the many onsens I had been to this trip! Ouch! Ouch! Did not soak too long as it was scorching hot. Then i went up one floor to take a peep at the outdoor onsen. It looked quite eerie whe you are all alone. Decided to give it a miss.

Dinner was at 6pm and guess what, we were the only pair in the restaurant! The other guests had probably gone out for dinner.
The menu was western soft beef with rice - fusion of western & chinese. Chips was replaced by rice!
Corn soup and salad! We ate lots of salad and greens this trip!

Day 5 - Check in Hotel Aile ホテルエール (Review)

Hotels in Beppu and Kaogoshima are the cheapest in Kyushu so Hotel Aile was no exception. Its location is superb, located a short walk, about 7min, from the JR Beppu Station and the walk to the hotel is very pleasant as the road are lined with many shops. Its great location made it very easy to travel out of here to many areas in Beppu. It had a indoor onsen and a rooftop outdoor onsen overlooking Beppu Bay. The onsen was not very big but there were not many people using it anyway. Changing area was also small.

We booked the twin room through the hotel japanese website. They gave us a three bedded room instead. Actually, that reduced the space! The room was the biggest in this entire trip. It was the same for the trip in May. We paid 11600yen for a night with breakfast and dinner. It was really value for money. The room was spacious and clean with a very good view of Beppu Bay, the marina and the sunrise. Amenities are sufficient but similiar to the hotels in Kyushu, the hotel does not provide moisturer. Breakfast and dinner were good - see review later. Overall, a highly recommended hotel.

After 1 hr train ride, we arrived at Beppu, another hot spring city.
Outside Beppu JR Station was a statue of Mr Kumahachi Aburaya who promoted tourism successfully in Beppu!

Ekimae Koto Onsen 駅前高等温泉 - one of the early onsen very near the JR Beppu Station. Its name suggests it is an onsen in front of the station. It has a hot and warm onsen. It doubles up as a guest house too.

Soon, we reached the intersection of Ekimae Dori and Route 10. That was Hotel Aile. We had to get tot he hotel via a underpass.
