Day 4 - Metropolitan Museum of Art

Next, the bus took us to Metropolitan Museum of Art. We passed by Grand Station, United Nations Building which was undergoing renovation
on the way here.
We were not interested in Museums so we skipped this one. Some fedback that the exhibits were interesting but there was insufficient time.

We walked around the offices and houses nearby the fifth avenue and Park avenue.


Interesting fire escape stairs but won't it be too hot to walk on them when there is a fire?


Back to the Museum to board the bus.

Day 4 - Lunch at Intrepid -> Intrepid

After the Statue of Liberty Cruise, we were coaxed into visiting the intrepid which was just beside the Cruise Centre.
Not sure if this intrepid exhibita represent NYC??
Admission was at US$26/person.


We took lunch in the canteen or foodcourt before visiting the exhibits.
Concord Airplane but we cannot get inside.


Many fighter and unique planes were on display.










Also visited the different levels, including the kitchen, meeting rooms, bunks, captain's room here.

There was also an section spaceships and its history. Beds in the spaceship from one of exhibits.

Submarine - did not have enough time to explore as it was time to get on the tour bus.

Day 4 - Statue of Liberty

After overcoming the various traffic jams, we finally arrived at the jetty to take the cruise (US$29/person) to view the Statue of Liberty on Liberty island, New Jersey. This is a must see in NYC.



The ferry came and off we were on the way to the Statue. Views along the shoreline.




It was such a cloudy day that most skyscrapers were in the clouds!

Originally bronze in colour, the statue changed colour through wear and tear.
To visit the statue on the island, one needs to apply for permit.

Day 4 - New York City –> Wall Street -> Breakfast at subway

Today, we left at 630am for New York City. First stop was Wall St. Passed by ground zero.
President Obama was in town for the opening ceremony of the new Twin Tower museum.
Lower Manhattan was in such a mess with many constructions ongoing.

Federal Hall National Memorial on Wall Street was built in 1842 as the United States Custom House, on the site of the old Federal Hall
where George Washington was inaugurated as the first President of the United States. It later served as a sub-Treasury building.
It is now a national memorial commemorating the historic events that occurred there. Statue of George Washington in front of the Hall.
