After resting for a while, we ventured to Piazza de Michaelangelo situated on top of a hill. It was quite a distance away and took about 30mins to reach but the view was rewarding and it was free!
En route - stopped to buy gelato from this popular highly recommended shop
This gelato is less milky. It costed 4euro!
Horse drawn carriage happened to pass by outside the shop while we were enjoying the desert!
Palazzo Vechio - Fortified, 13th-century palace housing lavishly decorated chambers & ornate courtyards.
Piazza di san Firenze
En route in the narrow lanes
Basilica di Santa Croce di Firenze at Piazza di Sanra Croce
Ponte Vecchio
Bell Tower
It was an uphill now all the way to the hilltop
Looking backwards
Stairways to hilltop
We were rewarded with a great view !
Santa Croce, second most famous church in Florence
Grand Doumo zoomed in !
Ponte Vecchio
Florence after sunset
As it was dark and we were tired, we took the only public bus 15 back to the Florence train station. It is more expensive to buy the bus tickets from the driver on the bus and they only accept cash in exact amount. No change will be given. We paid 2.50euro/person verus 1.50euro/person if tickets were bought beforehand.
We made our way to Tratti Restaurant near the station after we got off from the bus. It was recommended by the airbnb host!
Hubby ordered chicken in White Wine with Mushrooms, which was quite tasty
I ordered mushroom ribollita, a famous Tuscan bread soup, a hearty pottage made with bread and vegetables. There are many variations but the main ingredients always include leftover bread, cannellini beans, lacinato kale, cabbage, and inexpensive vegetables such as carrot, beans, chard, celery, potatoes and onion. I was expecting the normal soup but it was not soupy at all. It is closer to porridge. Not so nice IMO ! But hubby said it tasted ok.
Tortelli Ragu with minced meat
Bread
And a small tiramisu. We have this at every meal in Italy!
Total bill was 45.50euro. Overall, good recommendation from the host.
