Day 2 : Macau Heritage Trail - Chapel of Our Lady of Penha (Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Penha) Penha Church

After breakfast, took a cab to Penha Hill, where the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha (Penha Church) is situated.

The first chapel was erected by the crew and passengers of a ship which had a narrow escape from the Dutch. Later the chapel served as shrine for sailors embarking on often hazardous voyages. The chapel today dates back to 1837 when it was completely rebuilt along with the Bishop's Palace.

This is the picture taken from the hill. You can see great collection of old and modern architecture: the Grand Lisboa, the harbour, other colonial residences, the man-made lakes, the Macau tower and the Ponte de Sai Van or Sai Van Bridge. Below is the panoramic view from the hill:

This is a marble image of the Blessed Virgin Mary facing the border of China, as if praying for that magnificent land on one side of the large open courtyard fronting the church
